This is some of my favourite work from my portfolio. The first two images are drawn with biro, and the 'heads' of the birds are Iranian stamps which I believe to be at least twenty years old. I love how vibrant the colours are still, today. The imagery of the bird with the Ayatollah is a play on Iran's attitudes to freedom, and what it means over there, something I'm very interested in, being half Iranian myself.
The second two are outcomes from a self initiated project. I first came to learn about automatic drawing whilst on art foundation, and the idea of it really interested me. Also, as mentioned in my previous post, I became obsessed with paper cuts and using my scalpel to draw, so I decided to create a series of automatic papercuts, and I came up with this double A1 spread. I love the idea of illustration being fun and playful, and I feel that this comes across in this piece of work.
